it's new year's eve tmr! it's sooooo fast. i don't have the feeling that new year is coming at all this year. as in i don't feel excited,i don't look forward to it and everything. the festival mood is not there.
and since my grandmother is not around anymore i guess we are like quite divided now. cos last time what made the relatives come together was my grandmother. like during cny we will all go to her house to visit her. so it had always been a gathering place for all of us. since now we don't have a common meeting place or something we see each other less. maybe we will just go to my uncle's house or something, but not every relative's house. which means,my angbao money is going to drop a lot this year. :(
i watched the taiwanese variety show call 'kang xi lai le' (康熙来了). this episode is bout english. they invited a few guests who are not really gd at english to like share their experience when they have to speak eng overseas. and there's this english teacher from taiwan too. so they were discussing, and one of them suddenly mentioned singapore english. and they were like making fun of it,saying that we singaporeans speak english in a weird way that they can't understand. like we pronounce it differently. but after watching the video i think that, yes, our english isn't good,we speak singlish and stuff but i really don't agree with what they said. i don't think singaporeans speak like the way they did, when they tried to imitate how weird our english is. maybe it's just a minority who like, are not really good at english.but really,it's too exaggerating, they are stereotyping all singaporeans. we may not have that perfect american/british accent that sounds so cool, but doens't mean we can't speak english. and for taiwan i think it's the extreme,it's either they speak really good english or don't know at all. we have our own unique accent, due to the fact that we are born in singapore and brought up like that. i think every country has a different way of speaking languages,so we don't habe the right to criticise any other country's accent just because they don't speak 'correctly'.
anyway i watched the video cos our GP teacher mentioned it in class today. it came out in the New Paper.this particular episode, and bout taiwanese artists making fun bout our english.
watch it if you have time,it's just one small portion of the video so you can skip the front.(start somewhere in the middle) and you will know what i mean by it's not the way we speak, like really. they exaggerated it too much.
i'm starting to get sick of literature lessons in jc already. cos they keep asking us to write poems.-.- and,i SUCK at poem. and the worst thing is,we have to present it and explain our poems and blah blah. i hate presenting. i guess jc's just like that, presenting and presenting. so i have to accept that and get used to it,but i really can't write poems. that's why my worst done section for lit exams is always unseen poems.
